Renee Allen
The Wellness Institute Owner, Director, Certified Massage Therapist,
and Trainer
Renee Allen has been a resident of
northern Michigan for over 20 years. Originally from Rochester NY, she
received a basketball scholarship to Western Michigan University. At WMU
she studied health education and recreation for undergraduate education
and received a masters degree in exercise physiology. After sustaining an athletic injury Renee studied massage therapy and integrative
medicine for restorative health purposes.
Renee has over 15 years of massage therapy and physiotherapy training and
experience. She is a graduate from a state licensed massage therapy program
and has expertise in soft tissue manipulation; she is certified as a
manual medicine technician from Keith Barbour D.O. Renee is
also certified as a clinical hypnotherapist from a state licensed school
and has assisted clients with mental health self discovery for enhanced
well being and sports performance training. Renee is a personal trainer
and enjoys motivating others to achieve optimal health.
As Director of The Burns Clinic Disease Prevention
Program, a subsidiary of the Burns Clinic, a multi-specialty group practice consisting of 130 physicians,
she was responsible for managing the executive health clinic and a community
health promotion program. After ten years of managing this health clinic she purchased the business
and renamed it The Wellness Institute in 1998. For over twenty years executives
from around the mid-west have traveled to Boyne Highlands to attend the
clinic for preventive and restorative health needs.
Renee enjoys a physically active lifestyle as an avid cyclist in the
summer and a downhill and cross country skier in the winter months. Renee
also enjoys trekking adventures and completed a trip to the Himalaya
Mountain region in India, summer 2010.
Currently Renee is enrolled at Michigan State University
working on a second masters degree in Natural Resource Management. Renee
anticipates building a cycle tour operating business to begin Summer 2012.

Rebecca Cameron- Certified Massage Therapist
Rebecca Cameron moved to the United
States in 1998 from England and settled in Northern Michigan.
Rebecca originally trained in Swedish, Deep Tissue & Aromatherapy massage
in England whilst doing a 3 year graduate Aesthetician course and over the
last 23 years has worked in Spas and Health Centers all over the world
including Australia & the United Arab Emirates, as well as doing further
massage
training.
Whilst working in the United Arab Emirates managing a health spa at a
Hilton International Resort, she was approached by the Hilton Management
team to develop the "Group Package Weekends" organizing events, including
sightseeing, sporting events, spa treatments etc. for the corporate market.
With this experience Rebecca has developed a "Group Massage Package" for
those guests who are staying at Boyne Highlands.
Guests may choose to visit the massage center, on the Highlands property,
at the Heather Highlands Inn, or the wellness massage team can come to
your event. After or during a party, bridal shower or a long day of golf
the massage therapist will bring tables and chairs to your location.

Lou Awodey

Lou Awodey has a deep background in
field biology work, outdoor and trip
leadership, and ski instruction. He has a bachelor degree in Fishery
Biology
from Michigan State University and did his graduate work in Botany and
Outdoor Education at Northern Colorado University. He has more than 25
year’s experience as a full time ski instructor, both cross country,
telemark, and alpine with Boyne Snow sports Schools and well as in
Australia
where he worked some 10 winters.
Lou developed and directed the Boyne Nordican XC area at Boyne mountain
for
over 2 decades and is very well known as a Professional Ski Instructors
Association examiner and coach for over 30 years. He started, and
developed
a number of Nordic ski areas. His reputation as a Nordic ski area operator
and trainer/coach is extensive, having taught literally thousands of
clients over some 40 years experience.
Lou’s field biology background is equally deep and wide ranging. He spent
some 8 years as a field biology specialist and outdoor instructor for the
National Outdoor Leadership School, having worked in Wyoming, Alaska, and
Kenya, East Africa. He also worked as an interpretive naturalist for
Michigan Audubon Society (Sarett Nature Center, Benton Harbor, MI), led
natural history tour groups in Michigan, Wyoming, East Africa, and
Australia. He has hands on experience as a field biology researcher and
recreational specialist.
Annually, Lou also rides his bikes typically in excess of 3000 miles a
year,
annually participating in numerous week long tour rides in the Rocky
Mountains and elsewhere in the USA. He has coached many road riders and
lead
group rides in his home setting of Boyne City, Northern Michigan. One of
his passions is showing others the outstanding, unparalleled ride
opportunities that are Pure Michigan.
